Autotrader's pick is the later 2nd gens, for the V8 and the tech, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which became standard for 2020. It calls early 2nd gens riskier, without naming years.^12,5
Sought after: The 5.7L V8 All years One source so far

In one IH8MUD thread, three members back the 5.7L. One calls the drivetrain fairly solid in the trucks that have it, the owner of a 2012 reports zero issues, and an owner of a 1st gen recommends it for towing. On fuel, one says 14 mpg is standard, and the 2012 owner averaged 12.8 mpg around town.²⁸
