8-speed automatic faults 2024

What to check: Ask a dealer whether Toyota's service bulletin for the 2024 transmission was done, and on a test drive watch for slipping, late shifts or a sudden drop into neutral.

PickupTruckTalk reports NHTSA complaints of 2024 trucks jumping into neutral or sticking in a high gear, some within the first 1,000 miles, and says the bulletin's fix is free. Two members of a Tacoma4G thread mention early transmission problems.

What to check: From a cold start, try the touchscreen, the gauge cluster and a wireless phone link, and listen for rattles and squeaks on rough roads.

PickupTruckTalk lists dropouts of wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, screens slow to start, and interior rattles and squeaks, which it says dealers can address.
