Failed air injection pump or valves 2008–2011
What to check: Look for a check-engine light, and ask whether the air injection pump or switching valves were replaced under Toyota's extended cover.
Water in the pump and valves sets the check-engine light. Toyota extended the cover on these parts to 10 years or 150,000 miles for some 2011s, and Tundra Headquarters reports the same for 2008–2010 Sequoias.

Frame rust All years One source so far
What to check: Look over the frame from end to end, above all in salt states.
Autotrader names frame rust as a concern on the 2nd gen as well as the 1st.

Sought after: The 5.7L V8 All years One source so far
In one IH8MUD thread, three members back the 5.7L. One calls the drivetrain fairly solid in the trucks that have it, the owner of a 2012 reports zero issues, and an owner of a 1st gen recommends it for towing. On fuel, one says 14 mpg is standard, and the 2012 owner averaged 12.8 mpg around town.6
